First CBV order of 2014, and...first blog post!!

I finally started my own little blog! I've been wanting to start a scent review blog for awhile now and just kept getting distracted, but better late than never!

This will be a review of my Candles by Victoria order of 2014, I haven't ordered any CBV since before last Christmas and I was in desperate need of a new tart warmer, my old one's little switch fell apart, I also needed to get my mom a belated mother's day gift, So here we are!

All but one scent was new to me in this order. Most of these scents are more on the summer-y side but I did throw a few fall scents in there because I know that I likely won't be able to order again until the Fall and wanted to at least have some ideas on what scents to get in candle form for the fall season when it comes around!

So let's jump in!

* Storm Watch *
Category: Clean.
CBV Scent description: Like a moist warning breeze before a storm, naturally airy and refreshingly different - Uplifting.

my free SS with this order, I would have never ordered this one on my own as I usually don't venture into the man-ly scents, so when I saw this one I was skeptical, but surprisingly I like it!

This to me smells like a fresh men's body wash, or perhaps cologne though it's not at all perfume-y or 'cologne-y' to my nose, it's refreshing, clean and air-y. Like a fresh from the shower, and  freshly smoothed shaved, sexy man! I could also see myself using this as a clean house scent, it's a very versatile scent in my opinion! If you want a candle for your man, and his man cave, this would make a lovely gift option!

* Snow Taffy *
Category: Bakery.
CBV scent description: Snow Taffy features a rich & creamy French vanilla enhanced by nuances of caramelized sugar, warm butter, cocoa vanilla, with a touch of strawberry and lemon for subtle roundness. Not sickeningly sweet, this is a fun and unique winter scent to get you out of that spicy rut!

This is a repurchase, I had this in SS form this past Christmas and fell in love! It's such a unique vanilla scent to me, and the description is right on, this is a nice change of pace as a holiday winter scent! But I also think it's good year round too. Anyways, onwards to my impressions!

I think the main note of this scent and what makes it unique to my nose, is the cocoa vanilla, it's not chocolate-y but it's...something different, I don't know but it's so rich and creamy and perfect. I don't get any of the strawberry or lemon notes, perhaps they add sweetness and depth but I can't pick them out in there. I just love this scent, it's a unique and warm vanilla! Everyone should try this one out.

* Raspberry Coconut Muffin *
Category: Bakery.
CBV scent description: Sweet tart raspberry, rich creamy coconut with a rich bready note, a party for your scent palette!

Sweet raspberry blends very well with the creamy coconut in this one, on cold scent I only get a hint of the muffin componate of the scent, When warm the muffin makes a bit more of an appearance, but it doesn't overwhelm the fruit notes. This is a good summer bakery scent, it isn't too heavey for those hot days when you want something other than plain fruit scents! It has a medium scent throw, not the strongest but not too shabby.

* Lemon Cheesecake Strudel *
Category: Bakery.
CBV scent descriptionLemony, rich, creamy, with a hint of warm bakery cinnamon and a crusty crunchy bite that will make you drool!

A couple years ago I had an amazing Lemon Cheesecake lip balm that I absolutely loved and needed to have in candle form, so when I saw a lemon cheesecake scent from CBV I knew I had to see how it compared with Victoria's other lemon bakery scents (Most of which I've tried, Lemon Meringue Pie being my favorite so far!) and to see if it would be like my Lemon cheesecake lipbalm! Sadly it is not like my lipbalm, in fact Lemon meringue Pie is closer to how my lip balm smells, but I digress, onward to my thoughts:

LCS is probably my least favorite of all of CBV's lemon bakery scents, I think maybe it's the 'strudel' cinnamon crust part of this scent that turns me off, it just hits my nose wrong. There's also a strange sour-ness in this one that my nose can't take, it's hard for me to explain but this one just really turns my nose off. All the notes just don't blend together well for me, I really hate to say this as I know some people really like this scent but I suppose that it's proof that everyone's noses are different and we pick up on different scents. What may smell fantastical to you, may smell less than pleasant to me.

* Peach Preserves *
Category: Bakery.'
CBV scent description: Get your hot biscuit ready to slather on the butter and homemade peach preserves that memaw used to make! YUMMY!!

I've tried many of CBV's peaches, but somehow I always skipped over this one in favor for my hunt of that perfect fresh, real deal peach scent , but I finally got around to ol' Peach Preserves! This one is a strong, sweet, candy like peach scent, not really jam-y or bakery to me. If you like those peach candies that you can get at the store I think you'll like that one!

* Iced Orange Pineapples *
Category ; Fruity.
CBV scent description: A perfect blend of oranges and pineapple make this a treat for the senses!

You really can't go wrong with this one if you're a pineapple and orange lover! This is sweet, juicy, and summery to boot! The strongest note to me is the sweet juicy pineapple and the orange blends nicely around it, it smells like a smoothie I've had before.

* Singapore Sling*
Category : Black Label Line.
CBV scent description: This fragrance begins with top notes of candied lime savors, lemon syrup, and bergamot extract; followed by middle notes of poppy seed muffin, brown sugar, and clove bud; sitting on base notes of marshmallow fluff, vanilla cake batter, and white musk. Scrumptious!

Smells like a warm, gooey, lemon poppy seed muffin. Some says it smells like a fruit loops cake but my nose doesn't get fruit loops, just a warm delicious lemon bakery scent. Probably my favorite of the Black Label scents so far, still doesn't de-crown my Lemon Meringue Pie of favorite lemon bakery scents, but comes close! Also, another strong thrower too! Just a bit of my SS was all I needed!

*Cider Web*
Category: House Blends.
CBV scent description: Mulled Cider and Sugared Corn Pudding.

I really wanted to try one of the cider scents, and I figured I'd find one that sounded the sweetest, and what's more sweet and yummy smelling than sugared corn pudding? And I made the right choice, Cider Web is delicious! It smells like a warm and moist yummy apple cider cookie or maybe even a apple cider cake, it's got the fall spices of the mulled cider mixed so yummily with the gooey cookie warmth of the sugared corn pudding. I think there's apple in there, I can't pick it out directly but I feel like there has to some in there, right? I am assuming that the mulled cider is an apple cider, I don't know much about ciders so I'm just guessing! But anyways, yum, I am loving this one so far. I haven't actually melted it yet, as it's just too hot right now to melt heavier bakery scents like this one but I do so look forward to smelling this warm as I can imagine it's just going to get better with melting! Om Nom!

* Coconut Lemongrass *
Category: Fruity.
CBV scent description: Creamy, tropical coconut and sunny, bright lemongrass.

Coconut Lemongrass was one of those scents that smells exactly like it does cold as it does warm. First and strongest note is that brighty and cheery lemongrass scent, then behind that is the very creamy coconut. It's pretty straight forward scent, and very strong too just a little bit goes very far, I also noticed that this scent is one of those ones that stick around even long after melting, which is quite nice!

* Volcano (Type) *
Category: Fruity.
CBV scent descriptionAn eruption of tropical fruits, sugary oranges, lemons and limes. lightly touched with exotic mountain greens. This scent was a requested dupe by one of our customers, it was so amazing that I knew we had to add it to our line. Our purfumist worked their magic and our interpretation is stronger and more intense, done the CBV way. Truly amazing a perfect fragrance for summer, give this one a try you won't be sorry!

A dupe of a popular Capri Blue candle, this is a great summer scent! If you love citrus you'll love this one! The main dominating note is the sweet juicy sugared oranges, all the other notes blend into the background so I can't really pick them out individually. This is a pretty strong scent as well, a small piece of my Scent shot filled up my entire, and large, living room!

My sister is a huge fan of the original candle that this scent is duping and according to her it's a very close match. I haven't smelled the original in years so I can't say whether or not if it's a perfect dupe but either way this is a strong, sweet, and juicy citrus scent! When it's melting you could almost taste it! Perfect if you want to feel like you're at a lush tropical and exotic beach drinking a wonderfully tropical drink with one of those tiny umbrellas!

* Pizzelle *
Category: Bakery.
CBV scent description: Pizzelle is the scent of a traditional Italian waffle cookie made with flour, eggs, sugar, butter and unique scents of vanilla and lemon zest. If you are looking for that perfect buttery cookie fragrance, look no further!

On cold sniff I was very unsure of this one, it had a very weird note that threw me off, but as I suspected once it was warm that strange weird note disappeared and I got a surprisingly strong cookie like scent, I almost want to say I got a subtle chocolate note from it which is strange since there is no chocolate in the notes, perhaps the chocolate color of my SS just had me thinking of chocolate?

I was surprised by the throw of this SS as I expected this to be a very light scent according to other's reviews of it, perhaps it's lighter in candle form than Scent Shot? Also, I've never had a real waffle cookie so I can't say whether or not this is an accurate waffle cookie scent.

Not favorite cookie scent, there are few others that I prefer more, but if you love bakery and cookies(specifically waffle cookie ones.) Then I recommend giving Pizzelle a go!

* Pumpkin Pear Strudel *
Category: Bakery.
CBV scent description: A blend of pear, sweet pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, sugar and vanilla.

I get a spiced pumpkin scent along with the freshness of the pear. The pumpkin in this one is definitely no pumpkin pie scent, it's like a fresher pumpkin spiced with some cinnamon and other fall spices. The pear, and I am loving the addition of the pear, gives this scent a sweetness that almost makes this a 'fresher' fall scent, it's doesn't smell heavy at all. I could see this as a great scent to burn to start off the fall season! As for the 'strudel' part mentioned in the name of this scent which would lead this sniffer to believe there would be a bakery note of some sort, there is no bakery notes to my nose, only fall spices.

Pumpkin Pear Strudel has happily made it's way into my favorite fall scents, it's a great happy, sparkling fresh, sweet, and spicy fall smell that I can't wait to buy a candle in this one to burn during the fall time!

And now for what has become the favorite of this order.....

* Eskimo Kisses*
Category: Customer Creations.
CBV scent descriptions: Vanilla Bean Noel and Spearmint. Created By Deb.

Ahh, Eskimo Kisses, how pleased I am with you! For some time now I've been on the hunt for a sweet vanilla and mint scent, which has not been easy to find with my sensitive, picky nose! Mints have a tendency to take over show, but I prefer them to stand back and let the other notes shine and be the star.But Eskimo Kisses has arrived and has earned it's place on my CBV favorites list!

Upon first sniff of my Scent Shot the main note is the spearmint, much like the Wrigley's gum, only with a deeper sniff did I get that vanilla scent. I worried at first the vanilla wouldn't be strong enough to shine through but when I cut my SS in quarters it was as if I released the vanilla beast within! The warm creamyness of the vanilla bean noel let it's presence be known!

While melting, the spearmint was still mostly the star of the notes but the creamy vanilla was definitely there and was like a 'after smell', the vanilla cuts down any minty sharpness and adds it's own warmth to companion the spearmint's coolness. I've also noticed that as this scent burns longer the vanilla comes out more and more, which is just pure paradise for me! As for scent throw strength, this is a pretty strong scent, I started with just a 1/4 and it fills up my entire space very quickly! This is a candle worthy scent and I have feeling that it will be even better in candle form!

My only critique of Eskimo Kisses would be that I wish it had just a tad more of the VBN in it to make it even more vanilla-y, but as for my hunt for the perfect vanilla mint scent, this is about as close to perfection as I think I'm going to get for now, and that's just fine!This is a perfect relaxation scent for me, I will definitely need to buy more!

Well, that's it for this, I hope that this review was helpful to others! Thank you for reading!

Love, Landin. ^__^
